“If they had faith, nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:14-20
A desperate father kneels before Jesus: he doesn’t care what people say, he only seeks the good of his son. Jesus, moved by that love, heals him, while the disciples, who had previously failed to cure him of epilepsy, discover that their faith was still very weak. Faith, although it is a gift of God, must grow with our collaboration: like a muscle, it is strengthened by exercising it, nourishing it with prayer and the sacraments. If we are satisfied with the faith of our First Communion, we should not be surprised that today it is stunted. We need an adult, resilient faith, nourished by the right readings, by daily prayer, by the sacraments and by everything that helps us to strengthen it.
