La Enseñanza

On March 25, 1606, the Archbishop of Bordeaux gave the approval for the foundation of a congregation of religious in the service of women’s education. On April 7, 1607, the document (Breve) certifying the approval by Pope Paul V as ORDER OF OUR LADY is issued.

Thirty Apostolic Works were founded in different sites in France while Jeanne de Lestonnac, the foundress, lived. In 1650, ten years after her death, the community of Beziers founded the first house in Spain (Barcelona). From there in 1687, the Order expanded to Tudela, which became a bridge for the leap to America with the foundations of Mexico in 1774; Mendoza (Argentina) in 1780 and Santa Fe de Bogotá in 1783.

In 1956 the Province of Colombia was established, based in Bogotá. Existent Houses by then were Medellin 1889, Pereira 1926, and Barranquilla 1941.

In 1963, Colombia was divided into two Provinces, for better attention to the Communities and Apostolic Works. The Province of Bogotá remains and the Province of Medellin begins.

In 1972 the Company of Mary was established in Pasto and thus the Order grew in Colombia.

In 2003 it returned to a single Province called Province of Colombia-Peru, based in Bogotá.

In 2014 it was consolidated as the Province of the Pacific with the union of the United States, Colombia and Peru.
