“The kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to those who produce fruit.” Mt. 21:33-43

Jesus tells a parable today: an owner entrusts his vineyard to some vinedressers and leaves. The vineyard does not belong to them, but they forget that it is a gift received. When the time comes to be held accountable, they react with violence, as if the owner is an intruder and not the source of everything.

This parable reveals a very human temptation; believing ourselves to be the owners of what we are only administrators: of life, of power, of knowledge, of institutions, even of faith. When we forget the origin of the gift, abuse appears; When we forget the owner, we reject his messengers. Do we live faith as a privilege or as a responsibility? Do we bear abundant fruit from the gifts we have received?
