“My eyes have seen your salvation.” (Lk. 2:22-40)

Patience and trust…These are the lessons in today’s Gospel.  We know very little about Simeon and Anna except that they had been waiting for the Messiah for decades.  God had communicated to them that they would see the fulfillment of the promise, and they trusted, prayed, and waited. Do we, on the contrary, make our supplication to God while expecting the granting of what we ask on our time schedule?  Do we give up on our petition? Anna and Simeon probably questioned Yahweh on His slow response as the years dragged on, but they did not allow their doubts to spiral into giving up and going home. When we see the Lord’s hand working in the building of the Kingdom, can we say as Anna and Simeon, “my eyes have seen your salvation” and speaking “to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.”
