“Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Mk. 4:35-41

The story of the storm is narrated by the three Synoptics, each in a different context. Mark has shown, by means of parables, what the Kingdom of God is and requires; a project where power and wealth do not prevail, as do the smallness of the mustard seed, the insignificance of the leaven and the work of the good soil. Then he narrates the unexpected storm that fills the boat with water and makes the disciples cry out: “don’t you care if we drown?” Perhaps, after Jesus, with a word, did what they could not achieve, they understood that the Kingdom is not a combat of heroes, but that it is an adventure of mercy where the poor and humble are filled. Let us ask that we too, with the Church, understand and accept this.
