“My soul praises the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” Luke 1, 39-48
Mary’s visit to Isabel, within the framework of the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe, highlights the strength of the Spirit and the joy that springs from service to others. Today we are invited to have a heart disposed for service like Mary’s. She, having just learned that she is carrying the Son of God in her womb, does not stay still or take shelter, but sets out to accompany her cousin Elizabeth. This gesture teaches us that faith drives us to go out to meet others, to be a servant Church full of hope. The presence of Jesus in Mary’s life makes Elizabeth’s heart leap with joy, in the same way that the Good News of the Gospel makes our hearts burn when we welcome it. What attitudes of Mary inspire us in our daily lives? Does our heart burn with the joy of the Gospel?
