FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI.

THEY ALL ATE AND WERE SATISFIED.  1 Cor. 11:23-26; Lk. 9:11b-17

After teaching and healing, Jesus multiplied the bread to relieve the hunger of that multitude, as an announcement of that other bread that He would give at his farewell dinner, where He became food and strength for our journey. He is himself in his totality, in his greatness, made bread, to come into our lives.

It is rightly said that we are what we eat. To have Jesus himself be our nourishment is to allow him to shape his features in us, to transform us into his presence in the midst of our brothers and sisters. Jesus wanted to unite himself to us as deeply as the food that becomes part of our organism so that it can function. It is another of his great signs of love. Let us celebrate this feast with joy, and may our resolution be to seek it frequently in the small piece of the bread of the Eucharist.
