JOHN 7:40-53

“THIS IS THE MESSIAH.”

Precisely those who listen to Jesus, who know him closely, are amazed. Whoever hears the words of Jesus cannot remain the same. That is why in the Gospel text the soldiers who had been sent to seize the Lord, return astonished, saying that no one had ever spoken like Him before. This makes the Pharisees’ anger more acute because they are unable to carry out their malicious schemes. We, on the other hand, must draw near to Christ, let Him speak to our hearts through the Gospel, the Eucharist, and Reconciliation. Little by little, He will transform our being and will gently convince us with his love, his goodness, and his joy. If listening to God’s Word can change the heart, how much more can He do when we carry Him within.
