MONDAY 11

JOHN 4:43-54

“YOUR SON IS HEALED.”

For the time being, Jesus is well received in Galilee, although He is already aware that “a prophet is not esteemed in his own country.” At Cana, where He had performed the first miracle, that is, turning water into wine, He performs another “sign”; He heals the son of the royal official of Capernaum. This foreigner shows greater faith than the Jews, for the Gospel tells us that the man believed the words of Jesus and set out.

Jesus wants to restore us to health, like the son of the royal official, and He wants to free us from all slavery and sadness, forgiving all our faults. If we have faith, if we want him to truly heal us, we must approach him confidently to fill us with his grace. For this reason, every time we prepare to receive him in the Eucharist, we say a brief prayer that disposes us to humility: “Lord, I am not worthy for you to enter my house, but a word from you will suffice to heal me.”
