LUKE 4:24-30
“… NO PROPHET IS ACCEPTED IN HIS OWN HOMETOWN.”
It is certainly difficult to be a prophet in one’s own land. Human beings have memories, almost always very selective. We don’t listen to what the preacher tells us, but we try to override him by remembering who his parents were or how much money they had…anything but listening to what he tells us.
In a situation like the one Jesus experienced that day…if we had power, we would send down rays from heaven so that they would know who He is. And once again, Jesus gives us another lesson in patience and dignity: without fuss, without anger, without threats, “He made his way through them and went away.”
