“Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends…, you are my friends.” Jn. 15:12-17

Jesus continues to let his deepest feelings flow out of his heart: “I have loved you; I have chosen you; I have made known to you all that I have received from my Father, you are my friends, love one another as I have loved you.” So many expressions that invite us to savor them without haste, one by one, in silence. Before this open heart of Jesus for us, every word is superfluous. Let us allow ourselves to be enveloped by the joy of feeling like friends of the Lord. Friends are a wonderful gift of life, and Jesus tells us, “You are my friends.” It is not I who offer him my friendship; it is He who invites me to be part of his circle and, therefore, to do what He does; to love our brothers and sisters with that same love that He gives us.
