“Keep your lamps burning.” (Lk.12:32-48)
Jesus calls us to be attentive and vigilant. The grace that we have freely received is not to be kept, but to be put into continual, permanent service. Again we have Peter there, representing us with his questions: “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?” Well, we are all included…each one of us, contributing our handful of sand, according to the grace received, in the here and now of our life. All of this is for the construction of that new person and new world that must inaugurate the presence of the Kingdom. Saint Jeanne lived it, and her fidelity to that flame that God had kindled in her heart became a charism that has been a gift for the Church. Perhaps it is not our turn to be a flame or a bonfire, but a humble lamp that helps us to recognize where God is going… This Sunday, as we approach the renewal of vows, let us examine ourselves according to what the Company has asked of us: “To be light.”
