“Let love be its root and its foundation.” Eph. 3:14-21

In today’s first reading, Saint Paul gives a message full of hope and encouragement to the Ephesians. He tells them that he asks God that they be filled with the Spirit, so that they come to fully understand the love of Christ. He also tells them that he trusts that the Spirit can do much more compared to what He asks of him, and that is why the way in which this first part of the letter ends is hopeful. The psalm invites us to remember that “the Lord’s mercy fills the earth”. Only by realizing that the Lord’s mercy continues to abound in our lives, in our society, can we get us to base our love, our hope, our life on him. Let us ask him to help us to be able to see concrete gestures of his mercy and to help us to make love, his love, our “root and foundation”.
