“I pray that your love may grow ever more in knowledge and sensitivity to appreciate what is best…” Phil. 1:1-11
The words that Saint Paul addresses to the Philippians in today’s first reading are full of hope and express the deep affection and gratitude that the author feels for this community. The message that Saint Paul expresses to them when he speaks of what he asks of God for them is touching: that his love grow in them more and more. Surely, when love grows in us, we can realize the greatness of the Lord’s works (as the Psalmist affirms) and it would also help us to be able to dignify people rather than follow regulations that sometimes hinder the passage of life (as is the way Jesus teaches us in today’s Gospel). Let us ask the Lord to help us to grow more and more in love, so that we may be able to humanize our own lives and that of those around us, so that we may become a little more like Him.
