“Jesus went out into the mountain to pray and spent the night praying to God” Lk. 6:12-19
Today’s liturgy presents us with Jesus choosing his disciples and apostles. Before doing this task, the evangelist presents Jesus praying all night. This is how other passages of the Gospels present him to us every time He is going to make an important decision. It is interesting that the evangelists make known to us the names of the apostles and say more than just their names about some of them. Jesus also calls us by name and with it all the identity it contains. We could stay for a moment contemplating that name that our parents or relatives have assigned to us and imagine how Jesus chooses it, chooses us, to be “members of the family of God” (as St. Paul says in the first reading). And we can reflect on how He continues to invite us to expand our family ties with humanity, from the mission He entrusts us to live walking alongside him.
