“To what is the kingdom of God like, or to what shall I compare it?” Lk. 13:18-21
In today’s Gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to two images that may be familiar to us, at least by hearsay. These images are the mustard seed and the leaven. The first is a very small seed that, when it grows, provides shade and becomes a refuge for birds because it has many branches. The second is an ingredient that, we could say, becomes invisible when combined with flour and other baking ingredients. However, it is fundamental and must be combined in the right measure so that it fulfills the function it has. In other passages of the Gospels, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God with other images. Today, we ourselves could make ourselves aware of some other image or situation that brings us closer to the Kingdom and answer ourselves: To what other image of my daily life can I compare the Kingdom of God?
