“Walk as children of the light.” Eph. 5:6-8

In today’s first reading, Saint Paul gives a series of pieces of advice to the community of the Ephesians, inviting them to be imitators of God through kindness, understanding, and forgiveness. He concludes by reminding them that they were once darkness, but now they are light in the Lord. It is the same advice that comes to us today through the liturgy that the Church proposes to us. In the Gospel, we are presented with Jesus’ healing of a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years. Since the healing was on a Sabbath, Jesus received criticism from the head of the synagogue, since He was not allowed to carry out many activities that day. Despite the criticism and the prohibition, Jesus defends the right of the woman to be healed, even on the Sabbath. With his attitude of defending the dignity of women, Jesus shows that He walks as a child of the light, He is the light. How can I live as a daughter or son of the light?
