“Grace has been given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” Eph. 4:7-16
Saint Paul begins his account today by explaining to the Ephesians that grace has been given to each one according to the measure of Christ. In other words, it could be said (even if it is redundant) that grace has been given to us in gratuitousness, not according to our measure, but according to that of Christ, the Redeemer. He then goes on to explain that each one has a task according to the grace received and goes on to explain that everything we do should be towards Jesus who is the head of the body. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of conversion and proposes the parable of the owner of the fig tree who, finding no fruit for three years, asks the vinedresser to cut it. The vinedresser tells the owner to wait another year, that he will fertilize it to see if it bears fruit. To bear fruit, it is assumed that some seed has been sown before, some grace has been given to us before. Do I recognize any grace that has been given to me? Which one? What fruits could it bear?
