“Have your waists girded around and your lamps alight .” Lk. 12:35-38

Today’s liturgy reveals to us how God wants to dwell in us and, with the promise to make his dwelling place, He proclaims peace to us. Jesus never tires of revealing this promise of the Father to us and reminds us that it is necessary to be awake, to be always ready for when our Lord arrives. Today, he uses a very special image of the time he lived, that of having the waist girded, this image means being willing to serve as much as is needed. To this image he adds another, that of having the lamps lit. If there is a lamp lit, it means that it is because it is needed, because it is the one that radiates light, and what is around is darkness. Jesus wants to remind us that it is important to always be ready, willing, especially when there is darkness around us, that is where the light is really needed. “Do not let the flame that I have lit in your heart and that leads you so ardently to serve me be extinguished.”
