“If a grain of wheat does not fall into the ground and dies, it remains fruitless; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Jn. 12:24-26
Today we celebrate the memory of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, which is why we chose this Gospel story for the prayer of the day. In it, we are presented with Jesus wanting to teach his disciples, surely taking into account their knowledge of sowing and cultivating. He speaks of the need for the grain of wheat to fall into the ground and die so that it can bear fruit. Ultimately, so that it can fulfill the function for which it exists, the function of not remaining just a grain of wheat, but of multiplying. This story can lead us to think about ourselves and the purpose for which we have been created. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to know how to discover the purpose for which we have been created and the courage to be fruitful and productive in the realization of it.
