“Do not be afraid: you are worth more than many birds.” Lk. 12:1-7
The Gospel story that the liturgy brings us today presents us with Jesus wanting to teach those who were listening to him at that time about Divine Providence. As is customary, we find Jesus teaching with examples from everyday life so that his teaching is more understandable. The example He presents today leads us to grasp a little of the value we have for our Father. Jesus knows that we need to be convinced of the great love that God has for us, because we are his creatures. It is that love that seems to be difficult for us to understand and believe, because we continue to nourish the image of a God who is attentive to our mistakes in order to punish us for them. Jesus’ invitation is to convince us of God’s gratuitous love and the value we have in his eyes. What sentiments arise in me when I realize that I am of incalculable value to God?
