“This should be practiced without neglecting that.” Lk. 11:42-46
Today’s Gospel is a continuation of yesterday’s story. Today’s narrative tells us about a series of “woes” that Jesus expresses against the incoherent actions of the Pharisees, in which they are more attentive to appearances than to the truth. Jesus does not come to give little value to rites or traditions that are an expression of the relationship they have with God. What Jesus intends is that these expressions be consistent with the life led by those who practice them. He can make the same claims to us today and that is why it would be worthwhile to be aware of the sense with which we are practicing our faith. Am I overlooking God’s love believing that the more activities I do, the better person I am? Am I aware of the gratuitousness, goodness and mercy that God has with me?
