“But no sign will be given to him except the sign of Jonah.” Lk. 11:29-32
When we hear this phrase that Jesus said to the people who were crowded around him, it seems that it was little, it seems that it was an inadequate sign. But, when we continue reading the story in the verses that follow, we realize that the sign that Jesus is talking about is Himself. Thus, it is not inadequate, quite the contrary. Probably, many of the people who were crowded around Jesus did not manage to understand this sign, although they had it there in front of them. The important thing is how we receive this teaching today. It could help us to ask ourselves: In what way is Jesus a sign for me? In what concrete situations in my life, or those of those around me, do I manage to capture Jesus making himself present?
