“The kingdom of heaven is like a king celebrating the wedding of his son.” Mt. 22:1-14
The Evangelists tell us that, on several occasions, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to different images or situations, to help us grasp its meaning or to teach us some indispensable attitude that refers to it. In today’s Gospel, He compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a feast prepared by a king on the occasion of the wedding of his son. He ends by inviting all those his servants meet along the way to participate. Jesus wants to teach us that the invitation to be with Him is for everyone, for the “bad and good”. But He also teaches us, through the symbol of the “wedding garment”, a requirement to be part of the celebration. This is where He is probably teaching us a fundamental attitude: the willingness to participate in the banquet. How is my willingness to participate in the invitation that Jesus makes to me today to be part of his Kingdom?
