“My soul thirsts for you.” Psalm 62:2-6.8-9
Feeling that the soul thirsts for God, as expressed in Psalm 70, is an acknowledgment of our dependence on Him. This thirst is the inner cry for His presence, indicating that only the Creator can quench the spiritual void.
Only those who love intensely and know themselves loved can pronounce the words of this Psalm with sincerity. “My soul thirsts for you” expresses a deep, pressing need, as deep as physical thirst, as painful as hunger. The psalmist still adds, “My flesh longs for you.” The desire for God, for fullness, for transcendence, is as fervent as the desire for love.
