“Woman, how great is your faith.” Matthew 15:21-28
Jesus’ attitude toward the Canaanite woman may seem, at first, harsh and even contemptuous: the children’s bread was not to be given to dogs. But she, with great audacity and all the strength of her maternal love, insists: “Dogs also eat the crumbs that fall from the masters’ table.” That faith moved Jesus, who responded with an unconditional welcome: “Woman, how great is your faith. May what you want come true.” With this scene, a great change takes place in Jesus: salvation is now for everyone, without exception.
