“Beware of reviling scorning one of these little ones.” Matthew 18:1-5, 10, 12-14

Jesus tells us that the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven is a child, and that we must become like them in order to reach Him. What is it to be like a child? It is trusting in God, without prejudice or malice; it is to be humble and authentic; it is knowing how to count on the help of others without being self-conscious, and doing good by one’s own nature, without expecting reward. When human beings are proud, or when they seek something in return, or when they believe they have the power to mistreat others, to hurt, to exercise their arrogance, they cease to be like a child.  Lord, give us a child’s heart, clean and trusting.
