“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:1-8.

In the face of the Pharisees’ criticism of Jesus, because his hungry disciples pluck ears of grain and eat on the Sabbath, He responds by putting love above the law. He questions how power breaks the law without entering into objections, but it does make the innocent feel guilty. The invitation is to live mercy: “passion from the heart”, to be moved by the pain of the other, that pain transforms us and makes us feel from the inside. We must learn to listen to the cry of the sad, the oppressed: “I want mercy and not sacrifices” and to connect with those who suffer in order to support them. Deep down, the Lord reminds us that the human being is the most important thing.
