SOLEMNITY OF THE HOLY TRINITY
Jn. 3:16-18
“God so loved the world that He gave it his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not die, but have eternal life.” Jn. 3:16-18
The Book of Exodus presents us with the Lord himself proclaiming his way of being: “Compassionate and gracious, patient, abounding in kindness and loyalty, merciful to the thousandth generation, forgiving failures, trespasses, and sins.” (Exodus 34:4b-6.8-9). John affirms that this merciful love of God went to the extreme when He gave us the dearest of his heart: his beloved Son, so that He would give life to those who believe in him. That belief is not the fruit of our capacity, of our intelligence, but of the action of the Holy Spirit in us. Let us savor with joy the revelation of God in Jesus, to which we have had access through the action of his Spirit. Let us say to him today in the words of the Book of Daniel: “Blessed are you, Lord, God of our fathers, glory and praise to you forever.” (Dan. 3:52-56).
