“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”  Jn. 21:15-19n

On that morning by the lake, Jesus is going to entrust Peter with a great mission, but first, He wants him to feel very sure of his Lord, sure that he loves him above all else. That will be your strength in the mission; there will be no other motivation apart from unconditional love for your Master. Jesus asked Peter; today, he asks us, each one of us: “Do you love me?” What is our way of showing it? What is our response to so much love from the Lord? He asked Peter to feed and care for his “sheep”. What does He ask of us? Our prayer today must be a heart-to-heart encounter with him, of true affection, of promises of fidelity. “Do you love me?” Let us allow ourselves to be enveloped by the tenderness of this dialogue, where Jesus’ question is almost a plea: “Do you love me?”
