“If you ask the Father for anything in my name, He will give it to you.” Jn. 16:23b-28

In the texts of John that we have read these days, Jesus did not cease to speak of joy; that which springs up in the heart, knowing and feeling loved by our Father God. Today, Jesus emphasizes the joy born of the Father’s responses to what we ask of him in the name of his Son. Jesus says, “The Father loves you, because you love me.” What mom or dad doesn’t feel a special affection for those who love their children? This is how Jesus presents his Father to us: loving with predilection those of us who love his Son. Let us confidently draw near to the Father today and ask him for what we desire, in the name of his beloved Jesus, with the assurance that we will be heard. He will give us his answer at the time and in the way He knows how to do it for our own good.
