“How can the Messiah come from Galilee?” Jn. 7:40-53

At Jesus’ words, people are divided. Some recognize him as a prophet or Messiah; others reject him based on prejudices and incomplete arguments. Jesus provokes decisions: He does not leave it up to indifference. Fear and rigidity can close the heart. The authorities discuss from a stance of power and knowledge, but without really listening. In the midst of this atmosphere, appears Nicodemus, who dares to ask a fair question: he invites us to listen before condemning. His voice is weak, but he points the way to truth.

The rejection of Jesus is not born of evil, but of the arrogance of believing that we already know everything. Are we able to listen before judging? Only a humble heart can recognize who Jesus really is.
