“Take nothing for the journey” (Mk. 6:7-13)

Jesus sends the twelve out two by two with special authority as his disciples. They are to travel lightly, not even taking a second tunic, food or money.  They would undertake this journey in complete confidence that God would take care of their needs. We are also sent to travel lightly in our own journey, sharing Jesus’ words of life, preaching repentance and driving out evil.  Maybe it isn’t as spectacular as the apostles experienced that first time, but we are to continue carrying out the mission.  Just as the apostles were to travel with very little, we, too, must discern what we are carrying with us.  Are they attachments that impede our effectiveness in what we do and hinder our freedom to go wherever we are sent?
