“Where did this man get all this?” (Mk. 6:1-6)
We often set parameters on what is expected of those we think we know so well. Jesus was no different. He was so ordinary in Nazareth; he fixed their furniture, ate and drank with his family and friends, worshipped Yahweh in the temple and celebrated the weddings of his neighbors. A different Jesus returned; one the people of Nazareth failed to understand. God had visited His people, but they could not, would not see it. He was simply the carpenter from an ordinary family. How often do we fail to see God’s grace in the people on whom we place a fixed role? Do we fail to see God’s hand in our day-to-day lives because it comes in the ordinary events and in the hurts and joys of life?
