Jesus’ first words. Mt. 4:12-23
Today, Sunday, we are with Matthew, we guide our prayer hand in hand with Pagola. “The evangelist takes care of the stage in which Jesus makes his public appearance; the voice of the Baptist is extinguished and the new voice of Jesus begins. The dry landscape of the desert disappears and the beauty of Galilee emerges. Jesus leaves Nazareth and moves to Capernaum. Matthew recalls that we are in the “Galilee of the Gentiles”, open to the sea, from where salvation will come to all peoples. Inspired by Isaiah, Matthew sees that “the people dwell in darkness,” but that they begin to see “a great light.” That is always Jesus: a light that shines in the world.” Let us listen to his first words: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Let us open ourselves “to the newness that God offers us”.
