The Twelve: to be with Him and to proclaim the Kingdom. Mk. 3:13-19

According to Mark, Jesus already knows what ground he is treading on; Not easy. Surely He has prayed a lot at night; now He climbs the mountain and decides to seek company to fulfill the mission that the Father has entrusted to him. He chooses first a large group, “those he wanted,” and then twelve, the symbol of the new Israel. For them, for now, the important thing is to live together, “to be with Him.” From there the mission will begin. How much we have to learn from the pedagogy of Jesus; having experienced the refusal of his people around the law, He patiently gives himself to the task of forming a small group of disciples, companions and friends, preparing to be messengers of the Kingdom of God. Jesus, teach us your way!
