“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath” Mk. 2:23-28

Mark wants to put things in their place because it was also difficult for him to accept the novelty that Jesus brought with respect to the law of Moses. He narrates the passage of the disciples walking, tired, plucking ears of corn to satisfy their hunger. What a human thing! But not for the Pharisees: “Why do you do on the Sabbath what is not permitted?” Jesus answers plainly: “The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.” God’s laws are at the service of human good, not for its destruction. God is not a hindrance to joyful living. The true believer knows that God is the best thing we have to face life with success and hope. Let us seek today how to apply this principle in our lives.
