“The message of Jesus is a wine that the old Institutions cannot contain.”
Mk. 2:18-22
Hand in hand with Mark, we continue to pray with the newness that Jesus brought. What prevented many from accepting him was the fear of his message and his revolutionary action, which called into question the security of the Jewish religion. Jesus was clear: The conversion He preached was not a small “patch” in the Jewish way of life. Today it is the same because the Gospel fails to transform our way of life. We say we believe in love, forgiveness and solidarity, but we continue to be entrenched in consumerism, selfishness, and indifference. This is how we miss out on the best of life: the inner joy, fraternity, peace, and hope that spring from God. We do not know the “new wine” of which Jesus speaks.
