First Week in Ordinary Time
“The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe in the Good News.” Mk. 1:14-20
According to Mark, the oldest of the Gospels, Jesus began his ministry by giving Good News: “The time is fulfilled, the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the Good News.” Jesus, who deeply experiences being the Son of God, announces an event that begs to be welcomed and that changes everything. We are not converted so that the Kingdom may come, but because it has already come with its saving power. For Jesus, the Kingdom of God is life as the Father wants to build it. What would we Christians be like if we lived by being converted to what God wants? All this will not be done without us working on it in our life according to God’s call and plan for us. And for that we need to “go with Jesus,” follow him.
