“Jesus, teach me your way of making others feel more human” Lk. 5:12-16

A leper, who according to the law is unclean and must live in isolation, dares to defy the norms and approaches Jesus. He does not feel worthy of speaking to him eye-to-eye, and simply kneels and says, “If you want, you can make me clean.” Will Jesus dare to bring him out of the exclusion to which he is subjected in the name of God? But how can He, who lives moved by the compassion of His Father for His most despised children, not want to cleanse him? Jesus without hesitation reaches out and touches his skin. He is moved only by compassion: “I will it…be thou cleansed.” Although Jesus asks him not to tell anyone, the man announces the goodness and freedom of Jesus. Let us pray today: “Jesus, teach me your way of making the other person feel more human; let your steps be my steps, your way of proceeding be mine.” (Francys Adao, sj – Cristóbal Fones, sj).
