“Our Father… Our bread.” Mk. 6:34-44
Today’s well-known account of the multiplication of the loaves begins with a very human gesture of Jesus: the compassion He feels for the crowd, because there is no one to take care of them, and He begins to “teach them many things”. Then the concern for food arises and the disciples’ solution is to send them away so that each one can manage. Jesus proposes that everyone sit down and share what they have. He blesses the five loaves and the two fish, and there is enough for everyone, including leftovers. It is the spiral of solidarity that multiplies. Let us pray today with the Lord’s Prayer in thanksgiving for the nourishment He gives us in the Eucharist.
