“Repent and follow Jesus.” Mt. 4:12-17; 23-25
On the feast of the Epiphany we contemplated the “blind faith” of the Magi. If we were to ask a Christian today what he understands by faith, he would say: to belong to the Church, to receive the sacraments, not to sin. In the early communities, to be a Christian was to “follow Jesus.” A Christian is one who strives to build his life in Jesus’ footsteps, like those fishermen of Galilee who responded to his call with stumbling blocks and misunderstandings. We, who have a great number of witnesses who taught us to follow Jesus, must ask ourselves sincerely: who do we follow? What messages do we listen to, what causes do we defend? What makes us happy while we call ourselves Christians, followers of Jesus?
