“When you give a banquet, invite the poor…” Lk. 14:12-14
Today’s gospel passage is a strong contradiction to what we normally do; celebrate with friends: seat them at the table and serve good food. This brings joy, but it always leaves a sense of indebtedness. Jesus’ invitation is radical; to sit at the table to share bread, as equals and in closeness, with the little ones and the poorest, where not only physical pain is alleviated, but also the soul is encouraged and hope is restored.
A table where there is room for everyone, where we commune, without excess, without preferences and without favoring chosen ones, it is there that life is celebrated and a hymn to love is sung.
¿Do we give space at our table to those who smell of earth?
