PETER, DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN THESE? Jn. 21:15-19
Jesus has entrusted Peter with a mission; henceforth, Peter must feed the “flock of his Lord”. All the strength and motivation to carry it out is love for his Master: “Do you love me more than these?” Peter had failed, but now he feels forgiven and deeply loved by Jesus.
Jesus knows that in Peter’s heart there was always love for Him, even if because of his human weakness, his faith faltered. Now Jesus brings out what is in that heart and leads it to commitment to the task of evangelization.
He asks us the same question today, in order to launch us into a greater commitment. This commitment is first to him, and then, for his sake to so many brothers and sisters who need our attitude of acceptance, of service, and of a word of hope.
