JESUS CONTINUES HIS PRAYER BEFORE HIS SURRENDER. Jn. 17:20-26
Jesus’ insistence in his prayer is that the Father help us to remain united. Unity and love among those who believe in Jesus is the guarantee of our witness. Jesus does not want to be far from those who follow him, so He asks the father that his “friends” may always be with him. Those “friends” are those who have believed that He is the Envoy of the Father. We are those who have allowed ourselves to be touched and have experienced that God loves us, with the same love with which he loves Jesus.
Psalm 15(16) in today’s Liturgy beautifully complements the content of Jesus’ prayer: “I say to the Lord, my Lord, nothing is comparable to You. Lord, you are the integral portion of my inheritance, I was assigned a delicious plot, the Most High measured out my inheritance.”
