FEAST OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD.  Gospel: Lk. 24:46-53

Jesus bids farewell to his own with his blessing, and they return to Jerusalem. They no longer carry the sadness of separation from their Friend; they carry the joy of having witnessed everything they lived with Him because they accompanied Him from the beginning. They are also accompanied by hope in a great promise: the gift of the Holy Spirit, who will animate them forever. They begin to live a new presence of Jesus with them.

Today Jesus reminds us that also in our own journey in Faith, He has allowed us to know wonderful things. He has revealed to us the wonder of His love, in the way that God the Father, in Jesus, has given everything to us. Now it is up to us to give an answer: With our lives, we must bring the light of Jesus to the lives of our brothers and sisters who live so many darknesses in their lives. This is possible when we enter into the experience of knowing Him every day and allowing Him to enter our innermost being.
