“You will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy”

John 16:16-20

The life of the follower of Jesus is exposed to the various circumstances of anyone’s life. And in anyone’s life there are joys and sorrows. This human experience explains very well the words of Jesus in today’s gospel. Jesus announces that after a period of pain and anguish, they will see him again and their sadness will turn to joy. But that promise is not to be taken as sight with bodily eyes or human intelligence. Rather, it is with the gaze of love and faith that allows us to recognize his presence even in the most difficult and darkest moments of our lives. Today he invites us to know that Faith in Him really consists in knowing that his presence is always with us even though we do not physically see Him.

“You will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned to joy.” What effect do these words of Jesus have on the events of your life? How do you live your situations of sadness and anguish?
