Sixth week of Easter
“The Spirit of truth will bear witness of me”. Jn. 15:26-16:4a.
We are already in the sixth week of the Easter Season, which began yesterday, Sunday. Today we continue with Jesus’ teaching to his disciples about their relationship with the world (He does not refer to creation but to the world as it is governed by the evil one). Jesus makes it clear that the world hates the disciples as it hates Him. In the face of the gravity of rejecting Jesus, the Lord shows the first function of the Holy Spirit: to bear witness to Him so that the disciples can also bear witness. Theodore of Antioch says: “When you speak, the Spirit will confirm your words by his testimony, by evident signs…”. Jesus presents the Holy Spirit as the Paraclete, a word that means: “the one who is called to my side to help me”. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Paraclete: a doctor, an advocate, an intercessor, an advocate, a protector, someone who comforts me or listens to me.
