That encounter between Mary Magdalene and the Risen One is very telling and moving. She recognizes him when she is called by her name; she cannot doubt that it is He, her teacher, whom she sought full of tears and pain. She wants to embrace Him, to stay with Him, but that is not what Jesus wants from her. It is a meeting that will change her life. Now she will be his messenger who will be able to tell her brothers and sisters truthfully that she has seen the Lord and that she has heard his message, that Good News that they will have to announce to the whole world. What does this account say today to all of us who have joyfully celebrated the Lord’s Resurrection? What does it say in a special way to women?
