This is not the first time that Jesus speaks of his “hour”; He was well aware that his life in this world had a measured time and a mission, and that the Father would show him the time when He should finally go to Jerusalem, to be judged and condemned. The conviction and serenity with which Jesus speaks of all this is striking, in contrast to the eagerness of his brothers and sisters who incite him to make himself known to those who will know how to welcome him and value his words. This Gospel puts us before our eagerness to make the most of our time and to want to do more and more; we need to learn to go at God’s rhythm without losing sight of the horizon of our life, which is not properly that of achievement and success, but of having fulfilled the Will of the Father by living in intimate relationship with Him.
